ExyOne Shoulder: The Brazilian Innovation in Wearable Exoskeletons

Revolutionizing the Industrial Environment with IoT Technology

The EXYONE, designed by Arbo Design, is the first fully Brazilian wearable exoskeleton that aims to revolutionize the industrial environment. With a focus on reducing effort in the operator's upper limbs, this innovative exoskeleton improves performance, safety, and reduces the risk of injuries. Combining cutting-edge technology with a user-centered design, the EXYONE represents a significant step forward in the field of wearable exoskeletons.

Arbo Design, a renowned design team led by Valkiria Pedri Fialkowski and Daniel Kroker, embarked on a mission to provide accessible equipment to the Brazilian market. Previously, small and medium-sized companies had limited access to imported equipment due to cost and maintenance difficulties. The EXYONE was born out of the need to offer a solution that is not only affordable but also tailored to the diverse needs of the Brazilian population.

What sets the EXYONE apart from other exoskeletons is its unique combination of IoT technology and ergonomic design. By leveraging the power of the Internet of Things, the EXYONE collects data and analyzes activities through sensors, supporting healthy and safe work practices and preventing repetitive injuries. This wearable exoskeleton transfers efforts from the exo-arm structures to the user's body in a gradual manner, reducing strain on specific muscular structures.

The EXYONE's design and manufacturing process reflect the team's commitment to quality and innovation. The structure is made of folded carbon steel tubes, ensuring durability and strength. Components are created using a variety of techniques, including 3D printing, machining, welding, and laser cutting. The vest, an integral part of the exoskeleton, is made from polyester and polyamide fabric, with ABS loops and PU foam for added comfort.

Measuring 430mm in width, 300mm in depth, and 550mm in height, the EXYONE is designed to be easily worn and adjusted by the operator. Its user-friendly design allows for fast and autonomous use, eliminating the need for additional support. The sequence to wear the exoskeleton is simple and intuitive, ensuring a seamless experience for the operator.

Arbo Design's EXYONE project began in October 2018 and was completed in July 2019 in Brazil. Extensive research, including desk field studies, focus groups, and consumer insights, formed the foundation of the design process. The team's consumer-centric approach, combined with a design-based problem-solving methodology, ensured that the final product met the needs and expectations of the Brazilian market.

The EXYONE faced several challenges during its development, but through interdisciplinary collaboration with designers, engineers, ergonomists, physiotherapists, and workers, these challenges were overcome. The result is an exoskeleton that empowers workers, protecting their muscles, joints, and bones. The EXYONE is not only comfortable and customizable but also washable, anti-electrostatic, anti-odor, flame retardant, and bacteriostatic.

Recognized for its innovation and practicality, the EXYONE was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2020. This award is a testament to the EXYONE's well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements. With its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, the EXYONE contributes to a better world by improving the working conditions and performance of industrial workers.

The EXYONE, with its Brazilian technology and design, represents a significant milestone in the field of wearable exoskeletons. By combining IoT technology, ergonomic design, and a user-centered approach, Arbo Design has created a game-changing solution for the Brazilian market. The EXYONE not only reduces the risk of injuries but also enhances performance and safety in the industrial environment.
